CommUnity Shelter+

CommUnity Shelter+

A climate-ready soft-cover shelter system for prolonged and weather-exposed displacement contexts.

CommUnity Shelter+ is designed for situations where short-term shelter solutions are used for longer than intended, particularly in flood-prone, monsoonal, or high-exposure environments.
The system prioritises protection, adaptability and reuse, thereby supporting responses that need to function reliably over time.

Intended use

CommUnity Shelter+ is commonly used for:
  • family shelters
  • clinics and health posts
  • classrooms and child-friendly spaces
  • safe spaces for women and people with disabilities
  • shared and community facilities
Through the CommUnity Spaces approach, individual units can be joined or configured to support communal functions and evolving site layouts.

Standard configurations

CommUnity Shelter+ is available in a range of standard sizes:
  • 3 × 3 m
  • 3 × 5 m
  • 3 × 6 m
  • 3 × 8 m
Units can be supplied with or without awnings and configured individually or in connected arrangements to suit site conditions and programme needs.

Design features

CommUnity Shelter+ incorporates a number of design features intended to support durability and weather performance in challenging environments:
  • raised waterproof floor (250 mm) designed to reduce groundwater and surface-water ingress
  • Managed roof water flow to support local drainage and reduce erosion at site level
  • layered wall and roof system providing waterproofing, rot resistance, UV protection and fire performance without chemical treatments
  • The TensionPro+ anchoring system, designed to improve stability in high-wind, storm and monsoonal conditions
These features are integrated into the system rather than added as optional accessories.

Deployment

CommUnity Shelter+ is designed for rapid deployment using simple methods:
  • setup time: typically under 30 minutes
  • crew size: 1–2 people
  • tools: no specialist tools required
This supports quick installation while reducing training and logistical overheads.

Durability, stewardship and standards

CommUnity Shelter+ is designed for prolonged displacement contexts and repeated seasonal exposure. The system:
  • uses reusable, repairable and redeployable components
  • is intended to reduce lifecycle cost and material waste over time
  • supports responsible stewardship of shelter assets
  • is designed to align with relevant UN SDGs and UNHCR shelter guidelines

Adaptability over time

CommUnity Shelter+ can be upgraded or adapted as needs evolve, including compatibility with:
  • insulation and climate kits
  • solar power and energy systems
  • accessibility and safety features
  • security and internal layout adaptations
This allows shelter infrastructure to evolve without full replacement.

Confidence for donors. Clarity for partners. Dignity for communities.
