A Milestone in Resilience: Establishing Our Office in the Philippines

The establishment of our DS3-Global office in San Juan City, Philippines, represents a key moment in our mission to deliver innovative, sustainable and scalable shelter solutions. This milestone is deeply personal for me, reflecting not only years of effort but also an unwavering commitment to addressing the urgent needs of disaster-affected communities in one of the world’s most vulnerable regions.

A Journey possible through Vision and Determination

This journey began in December 2022, at the Singapore disaster conference, where I met the head of SARUF. It was an inspiring moment to see our work recognised with the "Cost Effective Mitigation Product of the Year" award - one of three global accolades. That recognition validated our vision to provide impactful solutions that combine cost-efficiency with meaningful, long-term benefits.

Why the Philippines Matters

The Philippines, with its frequent typhoons, earthquakes and as one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, presents unique challenges. Tenancy in these communities is often fluid, with many relying on physical presence rather than formal agreements to maintain ongoing connection to their land.

This makes the continuity of shelter on or near the land and safety critical. By enabling people to remain where they are, or close to their land, our re-usable, safer shelter solutions help protect livelihoods, supporting communities and better enabling ongoing tenancy despite the upheaval disasterous weather events bring.

Impact Beyond Shelter

Our work is about providing shelters and transforming lives. Safer, longer-lasting shelters contribute to better health outcomes by reducing risks from environmental exposure, preventing waterborne diseases and ensuring safer cooking spaces.

These shelters are designed to provide a foundation for continuity, allowing families to focus on rebuilding their lives and communities rather than merely surviving. They are an invitation to build back better, with resilience at their core.
