Flood recovery and rural continuity
A limited number DS3-Global CommUnity Shelters have been used in recent major floods in New South Wales, supporting residents whose homes had become temporarily uninhabitable. In regional and rural settings, relocation to large centres can create significant distance from properties, livestock, land and recovery work. Temporary shelter close to home can help residents remain connected to what needs to be protected, repaired and restored. The CommUnity Shelter model supported:- local recovery after flooding;
- proximity to damaged or uninhabitable properties;
- care for livestock and land;
- reduced need for relocation to distant regional centres;
- practical dignity during the recovery period.
Confidence for donors. Clarity for partners. Dignity for communities.
