Gaza

Localised humanitarian supply through regional manufacturing

DS3-Global recently completed the deployment of 87,000 thermo mats for Gaza working with its Jordan-based partner and regional manufacturing capability in Cairo. The project was originally planned for production and delivery over a 12-week period. Due to circumstances beyond DS3’s control, delivery extended over a much longer period. Throughout that process, the products were manufactured to UNRWA requirements and delivered through a regional supply pathway close to the point of need. For DS3, the Gaza thermo mat deployment is an important localisation case study. It demonstrated:
  • regional manufacturing capability;
  • quality assurance for UN agency supply;
  • a Cairo-based production pathway within practical reach of the delivery point;
  • partner-led delivery through DS3’s Jordan-based network;
  • the value of localisation in reducing distance, complexity and dependency where conditions allow.
The Gaza project reinforces a central DS3 principle: humanitarian supply chains should be designed around practical access, quality, speed, accountability and regional capability. The Gaza thermo mat deployment showed localisation in practice: regional manufacturing, partner-led delivery and humanitarian supply close to the point of need.
